We help children by focusing on the basic foundations for a better life – quality education, adequate income and better health. These are the building blocks that we all need for a good life. Our goal is to create long-lasting changes by addressing the underlying causes of problems.
History
United Way of East Central Iowa is in its 97th year of service to our communities. Our organization began in Cedar Rapids in 1914 as the “United Charities Campaign,” a program of the Chamber of Commerce. It was a “one-day only” campaign that raised $21,000 on behalf of four agencies. Since its inception the organization has had several different names and experienced numerous structural changes which have allowed it to grow continue to meet the needs and challenges of our area and the people we serve.
