I became CEO at United Way in 2005 and have enjoyed working toward the common good. I have spent most of my career in the nonprofit sector beginning as a clinical social worker and now as an administrator. I feel honored to be part of this organization and believe that everyday our staff and community partners make Eastern Iowa a better place to live, work and play.

I am happy to use my previous experience as an administrative assistant to support the various groups at United Way that have made a tremendous difference in the lives of people throughout Eastern Iowa. It is gratifying to know that my work contributes to improving the community where I grew up and am raising my own family.

I have lived in Eastern Iowa since 1995 after moving here from Germany. I am deeply invested in the community. Since 2000, I have held positions where I was able to tell stories. Those stories were told through newspaper articles, training videos for banks and credit unions as well as the development of topical communities. I started at United Way in September 2011 to help the organization tell its stories.

I focus on telling United Way’s stories across all platforms – web, print, mobile and social. I’m excited to hear people’s stories and capture them on video, in pictures and through interviews. I will be celebrating my sixth anniversary at United Way in January 2012. I enjoy my work here because I believe that what I am doing is making a difference in the lives of individuals in the community. I also very much enjoy the variety of my position. No day is the same.

Over the past nine years I have worked with non-profits in roles ranging from Deconstruction Manager with Habitat for Humanity-Quad Cities to Development Manager with the Girl Scouts of Eastern Iowa & Western Illinois, most recently.  I have grown tremendously as a professional in these roles and have enjoyed working with countless volunteers.  As the Jones County RSVP Coordinator, I am looking forward to connecting the community in which I live to the resources available through the Retired Senior Volunteer Program, Volunteer Income Tax Assistance program, and the Senior Health Insurance Information Program.

I look forward to continuing to work with seniors in our community and returning to the non-profit sector. I have been lucky to grow-up in the Greater Cedar Rapids Area and have created a home and started to raise a family here in our community.

Being able to help empower and connect seniors in Linn County with impactful volunteer opportunities helping older adults, individuals with disabilities, veterans, individuals faced with financial instability, and both children and adults seeking educational support. Helping connect seniors with community needs is what makes me look forward to work each day.

I came to United Way in the summer of 2010, bringing previous experience as an attorney and as an AmeriCorps VISTA with programs in St. Paul, MN, and Madison, Wis. It is both exciting and challenging to be the coordinator of a new AmeriCorps program out of United Way. It makes my day to hear stories from our community partners about the difference our AmeriCorps members are making in the lives of children and families in Cedar Rapids!

In my previous job, I always enjoyed helping patients and their families.  After 38 years in the medical field I can still continue to help people through the services being provided by United Way and our partners.   I have been impressed as to how many people in our community give so much of their time and money to help others who are less fortunate.  It warms my heart and I am glad to help through my position in Donor Relations.

I started at United Way of East Central Iowa in April 2013, but have been a United Way professional since 1986. Before joining the team here, I was CEO at the United Way in my hometown of Sioux City. I am excited to live in the Cedar Rapids area and work with incredible volunteers and staff to make our community a better place for everyone.
