Facebook Contest Added Fans to United Way Page
United Way of East Central Iowa understands there are many ways to connect with donors and potential donors today. Facebook is one way. In September and October 2012, United Way partnered with The Gazette Company in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, to increase United Way’s Facebook fans.
An ad (image at left) ran on TheGazette.com to entice people visiting the news site to like United Way on Facebook. If they clicked over to our page and liked it they were also entered into a contest to win Iowa football tickets.
The Gazette Company donated the two tickets to the Iowa football game against Penn State (Thank you!).
In all, United Way gained 241 new Facebook fans. 144 also opted into our monthly newsletter. In comparison, we previously grew our Facebook fan base from 640 in November 2011 to 825 in August 2012.

Congrats to Jen Heinsius for winning two tickets to an Iowa football game in our Facebook contest. The tickets were donated by The Gazette Company. Thanks!
As we are looking to expand the ways we engage with our community we think this was something worth trying and would recommend this kind of project to anyone who is looking to grow their Facebook following.
This was worth a try to connect with people who may not have been connected to us before. We routinely share our stories on Facebook and now 241 more people have the chance to see them.
The PowerPoint summarizing the contest is below:

Taylor Frette, of The Gazette, hands off two donated tickets to the Iowa vs. Penn State football game in October 2012 to Christoph Trappe, who is with United Way. The tickets are being used in a Facebook contest.
