Around 90 Attend Summer Meals Summit 2014

Summer Meals Summit 2014 (24)In Linn County almost 13,000 children are eligible for free and reduced price lunch. The Summer Food Service Program only fed about 800 children in 2012. Summer meals are important to hungry children. The summer months put additional stress on family food budgets. The Summer Food Service Program offers free summer meals and activities for children of low-income families.

We held a Summer Meals Summit on Feb. 18, 2014. About 90 community members met, talked about ideas and listened to Kevin Concannon of the U.S. Department of Agriculture.

“It was a wonderful event with lots of energy and great conversation – we’ve made a great start on feeding more kids this summer,” said Leslie Wright, United Way’s VP of Community Building.
