"Everyone I’ve worked with has been super friendly, and it has been great to have the help. I can’t afford to pay someone to do my taxes for me. I also work three jobs and it gets complicated to do them on my own. I would recommend this service to anyone that needs the help."- Kim Cross, local resident

Background:

Free income tax assistance is provided by VITA (Volunteer Income Tax Assistance) and AARP (American Association of Retired Persons). These IRS sponsored programs provide free, high quality federal and state income tax preparation for low to moderate income individuals and families. United Way 2-1-1 connects those in need with services provided by VITA and AARP.

The VITA program was created to promote awareness of the Earned Income Tax Credit (EITC) - a refundable federal tax credit that helps low to moderate income individuals offset taxes, supplement low wages, and provide a work incentive.

AARP Tax-Aide program provides assistance to low- and middle-income taxpayers with special attention to those ages 60 and older. You do not need to be a member of AARP or a retiree to use this service.
