The United Way of East Central Iowa website now uses a responsive design that aims to ensure that all visitors, no matter what device they use, can access it.
The new design adjusts itself automatically to the screen size of the device a visitor uses. Responsive design offers an optimal user experience for all devices.
The United Way website, which has won a national award for its innovative content strategy and distribution, aims to connect the community to relevant information in United Way’s focus areas of education, health and financial stability, as well as volunteering.
We are seeing a wide range of devices being used to access our site. Anything from desktops, laptops, tablets and smartphones with screens of different sizes. This new design should help us assure that all visitors have a meaningful experience.
More on the site
The website runs on WordPress and the United Way team picked a publicly available responsive WordPress theme. It was then adjusted and customized based on the organization’s needs and to adjust to user behavior.
Freelance developer Matt Thiessen (+MattThiessen) helped with coding tasks that were beyond the United Way’s Communication Team’s skills.
