On occasion we like to highlight some of our Young Leaders Society members. This spotlight is about Curtis Nelson, who sits on the Young Leaders committee. (To nominate a Young Leader to be highlighted here please contact us here.)
United Way: Tell us a little bit about yourself. Where do you work? What do you do for fun?
Curtis: I work as a Data Security Analyst at Transamerica. I have been with Transamerica for five years.
I enjoy golfing, cooking, and spending time with my growing family.
United Way: Why did you join the Young Leaders Society?
Curtis: I joined the Young Leaders Society to act as a representative for the Transamerica company. The opportunity was presented to me by the departing Transamerica representative. I graciously accepted the opportunity to join the Young Leaders Society in hopes to provide feedback to both the United Way and Transamerica that would help increase participation of young Transamerica employees.
United Way: What are your favorite activities in the community?
Curtis: I enjoy attending live performances by the Cedar Rapids Opera Theatre. I enjoy browsing the local Farmers’ Markets and Newbo Market.
United Way: How did you decide to be involved with United Way?
Curtis: I decided to become involved with United Way during Transamerica’s annual campaign. I believe strongly in giving back to the community. United Way does a great job of providing back to the community and understanding where and what resources are needed throughout the community.
United Way: What’s something unique that people don’t know about you?
Curtis: My wife (Amber), daughter (Adalynn), and I are anxiously awaiting the arrival of our baby son/brother in April.
United Way: What is some of the best parenting and /or leadership advice you have received?
Curtis: “Feedback is the breakfast of champions.” Rick Tate
