On occasion we like to highlight some of our Young Leaders Society members. This spotlight is about Charisma Wickham, who sits on the Young Leaders committee and works for Alliant Energy. (To nominate a Young Leader to be highlighted here please contact us here.)
United Way: Tell us a little bit about yourself. Where do you work? What do you do for fun?
Charisma: I work at Alliant Energy as a Supervisor of Meter Data Operations Support. I have been with Alliant Energy for 15 years. I enjoy camping, cooking/baking, fishing, reading and spending time with friends and family.
United Way: Why did you join the Young Leaders Society?
Charisma: It seemed like a great opportunity to meet other young professionals who are excited about getting involved and giving back to the community.
United Way: What are your favorite activities in the community?
Charisma: I have been a mentor with Big Brothers Big Sisters since 2011, spending time with my little is one of my favorite volunteer past times. We love exploring different things in the community and she is always teaching me something new or reminding me what the world looks like through the innocence of a child.
I also enjoy spending time at our local farmers markets at the Coralville Reservoir or dining at various local restaurants around the community.
United Way: How did you decide to be involved with United Way?
Charisma: My mom has been involved with United Way for as long as I can remember, so it’s always been important to me. I got involved with United Way at Alliant Energy early on in my career and in 2008 I was given the opportunity to lead a YLS chapter at Alliant Energy.
United Way: What’s something unique that people don’t know about you?
Charisma: I love to fish, but I’m deathly afraid of the bait, so I can’t bait my own hook.
United Way: What is some of the best parenting and /or leadership advice you have received?
Charisma: “Everyone falls down. Getting back up is how you learn to walk.” – Walt Disney
